Aus vs Sl first test in Galle International Stadium Sri Lanka. Usman Khawaja and Josh Inglis played important roles as Australia took control of the first Test against Sri Lanka. Khawaja with a career best 232 and Inglis who marked his debut with a blistering 102 led Australia to a commanding 6-654 declared. This total was their highest ever in the subcontinent and the largest in Tests since January 2012.

Usman Khawaja 232 was the highlight of Australia’s innings. He batted with poise and consistency handling the turning pitch with ease. Khawaja’s innings was built on a solid technique using his feet playing the sweep and reverse sweep confidently and adapting his game with every passing year.

On debut Inglis played with freedom scoring 102 off 90 balls. His performance was a testament to his aggressive style which included powerful strikes and well placed sweeps. His century made him the first Australian debutant to score a century since Adam Voges in 2015. Inglis fiery knock was crucial as Australia continued to pile on the runs.

After a big score Australian bowlers wasted no time in making an impact. Matt Kuhnemann claimed the first wicket of Sri Lanka removing Oshada Fernando early. Starc then had Dimuth Karunaratne caught in the gully. Sri Lanka ended the day at 3-44 still trailing by a long margin of 610.

Usman Khawaja knock also underscored his growth as a player on subcontinent pitches. After facing criticism earlier in his career he has now become one of Australia’s most reliable players in Asia. His average of 61.76 in the region speaks volumes about his adaptability and skill.

Inglis century proved that the selectors were right in backing him for this Test. His quick aggressive approach matched perfectly with the demands of the pitch. His innings added momentum at a crucial stage following the dismissal of Steve Smith for 141.
