South Africa have won the 4th T20 of Tri-series from Zimbabwe by 43 runs. South Africa produced another strong all-round performance to beat Zimbabwe in the tri-series.
The Proteas first posted a competitive total. They then tore through Zimbabwe’s top order with the ball. As a result, South Africa moved closer to securing a place in the final. South Africa’s innings received a major boost from Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
The opener played an aggressive knock of 94 runs. He came close to a maiden T20I hundred but missed the milestone. Dewald Brevis also continued his impressive form. He added a quick 41 to keep the scoreboard moving.
However, South Africa lost momentum during the closing stages of 4th T20 of Tri-series against Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe managed to restrict the damage and kept the final total within reach.
Zimbabwe began the chase positively.
They reached 33 without losing a wicket. However, their innings soon fell apart.
A rapid sequence of wickets left them reeling at 66/8.
South Africa’s bowlers applied relentless pressure. Duan Jansen led the attack with an aggressive spell, while Bjorn Fortuin made an immediate impact.
Fortuin struck with his very first delivery. He later removed the dangerous Sikandar Raza. That wicket proved particularly important as Zimbabwe tried to recover. With Zimbabwe deep in trouble, Raza changed his approach.
He attacked the bowling and formed a 40-run partnership with Newman Nyamhuri. Raza eventually fell for 45, but his counterattack gave Zimbabwe some hope.
Nyamhuri then combined with Kundai Matigimu in the final stages. The pair added valuable runs and pushed Zimbabwe to 142.
Their effort prevented an even heavier defeat. Fortuin completed an excellent spell with a four-wicket haul.
His early breakthrough helped South Africa seize control to the 4th T20 of Tri-series over Zimbabwe. His dismissal of Raza then removed Zimbabwe’s biggest threat.
The Proteas also struck four times during the Powerplay. That early pressure created the foundation for the victory.
After a difficult beginning to the tri-series, South Africa have now recorded two important victories over Zimbabwe. Their latest success has also improved their position at the top of the table.
With a strong net run rate and another win secured, the Proteas now look well placed to reach the final. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, will need a major improvement in their next outing to stay in contention.
