On June 10, at The Rose Bowl in Southampton, England posted a massive 248/3 their highest T20I total at home in 3rd T20 against West Indies.
Openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett laid a solid foundation. Both scored quick half-centuries. Later short but impactful knocks from others powered England to a dominant total. With the ball Luke Wood and Adil Rashid starred as England restricted West Indies to 211/8. They secured a 37-run victory and a 3–0 clean sweep in the T20I series.
Earlier, West Indies skipper Shai Hope won the toss and chose to bowl in 3rd T20 vs England. Duckett hit the first six in the third over. Soon, both openers accelerated. England raced to 83/0 in the powerplay.
Duckett smashed a fifty in just 20 balls. Smith followed with his maiden T20I half-century in 23 balls. He launched three sixes in an over from Romario Shepherd one of which came after a dropped catch. Gudakesh Motie broke the partnership by dismissing Smith, who scored a fiery 60 off 26 balls with four boundaries and five sixes.
The opening pair added 120 runs in just 53 balls. At the 10-over mark, England had 135 runs on the board.
Jos Buttler chipped in with a quick 22 from 10 balls before Sherfane Rutherford got his wicket. Duckett missed out on a century as he was bowled by Akeal Hosein in the 15th over. He scored 84 off 46 deliveries, with 10 fours and two sixes.
Later, Jacob Bethell went on a hitting spree. He smashed Motie for three straight sixes in the 17th over. Bethell and Brook stitched an unbeaten 70-run stand. Brook scored 35 off 22 balls while Bethell stayed not out on 36 from just 16 balls. England ended at a towering 248/3.
Chasing a huge target, Evin Lewis started with a six off Wood. But Wood struck back by removing Johnson Charles for 9 in the next over. Shai Hope counterattacked with back-to-back sixes off Will Jacks.
Liam Dawson joined the attack and dismissed Lewis. Hetmyer came in and hit Wood for a four and two sixes. At the end of the powerplay, West Indies were 66/2.
Bethell made an impact with the ball too, removing Hetmyer for 26 off 8 balls. Rashid then dismissed Rutherford. Powell looked dangerous and took on Rashid with a six and two boundaries. West Indies were 97/4 after 10 overs.
With the required rate climbing, Hope tried to take charge. He hit Carse for a six and two fours but was out soon after for 45 from 27 balls. Rashid returned and got Shepherd out for a duck. The chase started slipping away.
Jason Holder and Rovman Powell fought back with boundaries. Wood returned and struck twice — dismissing both Holder (25 off 12) and Motie.
In the second-last over, Powell reached his fifty in 34 balls. In the final over, he hit Carse for a six and three fours. Powell remained unbeaten on 79 from 45 balls. West Indies finished at 211/8 and fell short by 37 runs in 3rd T20 vs England.
With this win, England whitewashed West Indies in both the ODI and T20I series. It’s a dream start for Harry Brook as England’s new white-ball captain. West Indies, under Shai Hope, will now look to bounce back in their upcoming T20I series against Ireland.
