Nicholas Pooran retires from International Cricket after 9 years

West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran has ended his international career. He played for nine years. Pooran was the top-ranked West Indies player in T20I batting.

The left-handed player from Trinidad played 167 matches for West Indies. In ODIs, he scored 1,983 runs at an average of 39.66. His strike rate was 99.15. In T20Is, he made 2,275 runs, the most by any West Indies player. His strike rate was 136.39.

Nicholas Pooran was a talented player from a young age. He played in the 2014 U19 World Cup. Two years later he made his senior debut in a T20I against Pakistan.

He played his first ODI in 2018. Later, he was part of the West Indies squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

In 2021 he became vice-captain for the T20 World Cup. In 2022, he led the team in both white-ball formats for six months. This included the T20 World Cup that year.

Cricket West Indies thanked Pooran for his contributions. They praised his achievements and the joy he brought to fans. They also wished him success in his future.

Pooran leaves as the most experienced West Indies T20I player. He played 106 matches and scored the most runs (2,275). He passed Chris Gayle’s record during the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Nicholas Pooran last game for West Indies was in December 2024. Now he will focus on other cricket opportunities outside international matches.
