South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has replied to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after pulling out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10. He cited financial security and career growth as his reasons for the decision.
Bosch was originally selected by Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 10 draft. However he chose to join Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) instead. His move frustrated PCB officials and raised concerns about his commitment to the PSL.
The PCB views Corbin Bosch withdrawal as a contract breach. Legal action was initiated through his agent. On Monday Bosch clarified his stance saying he never intended to disrespect the PSL. He explained that Mumbai Indians’ strong presence in global leagues offers him better long term opportunities.
The PCB is now reviewing his response. They will assess the contract violation and decide on possible penalties.
Following Bosch’s exit Peshawar Zalmi quickly signed Australian batter Mitchell Owen as his replacement. This year the PSL and IPL will overlap for the first time. The IPL runs from March 22 to May 25 while the PSL takes place from April 11 to May 18. Corbin Bosch had been picked in the Diamond category during the PSL draft in January. However on March 8 Mumbai Indians announced him as a replacement for the injured Lizaad Williams.
A PCB statement confirmed that a legal notice was served through Bosch’s agent. The board has asked him to justify his withdrawal and warned of consequences. The statement did not mention a deadline for his response.
PSL franchises are concerned that Bosch’s decision could set a trend. Some teams have discussed banning players who withdraw from PSL to join the IPL.
To attract top international players the PCB shifted the PSL window from March to May. Previously the league clashed with the SA20, ILT20 and BPL. Some experts suggested holding the PSL draft after the IPL auction for better clarity on player availability. However the IPL auction took place in November 2024 and the PSL draft followed in January 2025.
Despite the scheduling issues the PSL secured several high profile players including David Warner, Daryl Mitchell, Jason Holder, Rassie van der Dussen and Kane Williamson.
Corbin Bosch 30, was part of Rajasthan Royals in 2022 but did not play any matches. He has ties with the Mumbai Indians franchise having played for MI Cape Town in SA20 earlier this year. His decision to switch leagues has sparked debates over player commitments and the PSL’s credibility.
