Punjab Kings chase 219 comfortably by 6 wickets in hand in the match # 17 of IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Punjab Kings continued their unbeaten run with a thrilling victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring IPL clash.

Kings chased down a massive target of 220 with confidence and power. As a result, they registered their third win in completed matches and strengthened their position near the top of the table. The match began with complete domination from Hyderabad’s opening pair.

Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head tore into Punjab’s bowling attack from the very first over. The duo attacked fearlessly and smashed boundaries all around the ground. By the end of the powerplay, Hyderabad had already crossed the 100-run mark. The bowlers looked helpless as both openers played with total freedom.

However, Punjab slowly fought their way back into the match # 17 of IPL 2026. Captain Shreyas Iyer made a bold move by introducing part-time bowler Shashank Singh into the attack. Surprisingly, the gamble worked immediately. Shashank dismissed both dangerous openers and suddenly changed the momentum of the innings.

From there, Punjab tightened their bowling during the middle overs and prevented Hyderabad from fully capitalizing on their explosive start. Although SRH still crossed 200, the total felt slightly below expectations after the opening assault.

After the match, Punjab assistant coach Brad Haddin admitted that the powerplay batting from Hyderabad was among the most destructive he had seen this season. Still, he praised Punjab’s calm approach and ability to regain control during the middle phase.

Hyderabad captain Ishan Kishan later admitted that his side missed opportunities with both bat and ball. He believed the team could have pushed closer to 250 after such a dominant start. Punjab, though, approached the chase with complete confidence.

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh launched a fierce counterattack during the powerplay. Much like Hyderabad earlier in the game, Punjab raced to an explosive start and immediately placed pressure on the bowlers.

The opening pair added quick runs and both completed impressive half-centuries. Hyderabad briefly clawed their way back after the strategic timeout. Wickets fell in clusters, and Punjab suddenly slipped into a slightly difficult position.

Then captain Shreyas Iyer stepped in. The skipper played a fearless innings under pressure and completely controlled the chase during the final overs. He attacked the pacers confidently, found boundaries regularly, and stayed unbeaten till the end.

Meanwhile, Shashank Singh once again made an impact by finishing the chase calmly alongside his captain. Hyderabad spinner Shivang Kumar tried hard to turn the game around with three wickets. However, the rest of the bowling attack struggled badly and failed to contain Punjab’s aggressive batting lineup.

The defeat in match # 17 of IPL 2026 left Hyderabad with only one win from 4 matches. More importantly, questions continue to grow around their execution during crucial moments. Punjab, on the other hand, look full of confidence. Their batting unit continues to fire, their leadership remains aggressive, and the team has now become the first side in IPL history to complete 10 successful chases of 200 or more.
