Australia vs South Africa 2nd Test highlights

South Africa produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Australia by an innings in the 2nd Test and level the series. The hosts recovered from a difficult start before their fast bowlers dismantled Australia’s first innings.

Marco Jansen led the attack with a five-wicket haul. Meanwhile, Temba Bavuma’s outstanding century helped South Africa build a commanding advantage. Although Australia showed greater resistance in their second innings, the Proteas eventually finished the job.

The result sets up an exciting series decider in Cape Town next week.

South Africa struggled early after choosing to bat first. Australia’s Scott Boland exploited the conditions and tore through the top order, leaving the hosts in trouble at 110/6.

Boland claimed five wickets and gave Australia control of the contest. However, Bavuma refused to let the innings fall apart.

The South African captain produced a career-best 179 to revive his team’s hopes. Jansen also counterattacked with valuable runs, shifting the momentum back towards the hosts.

Later, Bavuma and Simon Harmer combined for a record eighth-wicket partnership of 183 runs. Their stand transformed South Africa’s innings and helped the team recover from a precarious position.

South Africa’s fast bowlers took charge when Australia began their first innings. Jansen delivered an outstanding spell and claimed five wickets at a crucial stage.

His performance became even more important because Anrich Nortje missed the match with a groin injury. Jansen stepped up in his absence and led the attack brilliantly.

Australia struggled with their shot selection and failed to build meaningful partnerships. The visitors eventually collapsed for just 99 runs.

That total handed South Africa a massive 326-run lead over Australia in the 2nd Test. The hosts enforced the follow-on, leaving Australia with a steep challenge to save the match.

Australia showed far greater determination in their second innings of 2nd Test against South Africa. Travis Head led the resistance after surviving an early chance when Jansen dropped him on five.

Head capitalised on the reprieve and scored his second Test century outside Australia. He kept the South African bowlers busy and gave the visitors a much-needed boost.

Nightwatchman Scott Boland also played a crucial role. He showed tremendous patience and faced 166 deliveries, helping Head frustrate the hosts for an extended period.

Rain delayed the start on the final day, adding further uncertainty to the contest. Nevertheless, South Africa remained persistent.

Wiaan Mulder eventually broke through Boland’s defence. That breakthrough opened the door for the Proteas to wrap up the innings and secure a convincing victory.

South Africa’s victory completed an impressive turnaround. After slipping to 110/6 in their first innings, they recovered through Bavuma and Harmer before their bowlers took control.

Australia, meanwhile, paid a heavy price for their first-innings collapse. Head and Boland showed fight in the follow-on, but their efforts could not erase the deficit.

The win levels the series and sets up a decisive final Test in Cape Town next week. Both sides will now look to seize the advantage and finish the contest on a high.
