Taskin Ahmed made history by becoming the highest wicket taker in a single BPL season. He achieved this milestone by taking his 24th wicket in just 11 matches surpassing Shakib Al Hasan previous record of 23 wickets in 15 matches for Dhaka Dynamites during the 2018–19 season.

Durbar Rajshahi claimed a tight 2 wicket win against Rangpur Riders in a low scoring thriller at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The match saw Rajshahi pacer Taskin Ahmed surpass Shakib Al Hasan record for the most wickets in a single Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season.

Taskin Ahmed set the tone early in Rangpur chase of an average 120 run target. In the very first over he dismissed opener Steven Taylor equaling Shakib’s record. Later in the 2nd last over, he trapped Rakibul Hasan lbw breaking a critical 42 run 8th wicket stand between Rakibul and Mohammad Saifuddin. Taskin finished with impressive bowling figures of 2 for 25 in his four overs.

Rajshahi fielded an all local XI a first in BPL history after receiving special approval from the tournament’s technical committee. Despite this unique lineup their batting struggled with the team managing just 119 for nine in their 20 overs.

At one stage Rajshahi appeared on the boundary of collapse when they were 84 for eight in the 15th over. However tailender Sunzamul Islam steadied the innings with an unbeaten 28 off 29 balls ensuring they reached to 119.

Rangpur Riders also faltered in their chase finding themselves in deep trouble at 30 for six within nine overs. Rajshahi pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury was useful claiming four wickets for just 18 runs including a maiden over.

Despite the early blow Mohammad Saifuddin showed a late glimmer of hope. Needing 25 runs off the final over Saifuddin smashed 2 sixes off the first two balls bowled by Jishan Alam. However his decision to refuse singles on the next two deliveries ultimately proved costly.

He managed to hit a four and another six off the last two balls but fell short leaving Rangpur two runs shy of victory. Saifuddin remained unbeaten with a career best 52 off 31 balls including 3 sixes and 6 fours.

With this win Rajshahi climbed to fourth place on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches. Despite the loss Rangpur retained their top position with 16 points from 10 games.

This intense match not only highlighted Taskin Ahmed remarkable bowling form but also showcased the unpredictable nature of the T20 cricket where even low scoring games can deliver thrilling finishes.
