Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh by just 13 runs in the 2nd ODI and lead the series by 2-0. Zimbabwe produced a remarkable fightback to defeat Bangladesh in a dramatic ODI in Harare and clinch the series. The hosts overturned a losing position with disciplined bowling and calm execution in the closing stages to secure another memorable victory on home soil.
At one stage Bangladesh looked firmly in control of the chase. However, Zimbabwe refused to give up struck at crucial moments and completed an outstanding comeback to wrap up the series.
After losing early wickets, Zimbabwe rebuilt their innings through a composed partnership between Ben Curran and Sikandar Raza.
The experienced pair steadied the innings with a valuable 68-run stand before Curran found another strong partner in Brad Evans.
Curran anchored the innings beautifully, remaining unbeaten on 111 to register his second ODI century. He paced his knock perfectly and held the innings together from start to finish.
Evans then provided the late acceleration. His unbeaten 58 from just 38 deliveries lifted Zimbabwe during the closing overs and helped the hosts finish close to the 250-run mark.
Bangladesh bowled well in the 2nd ODI against Zimbabwe for much of the innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed claimed two wickets each, while Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana also chipped in. However, Zimbabwe’s late surge, including an expensive final over, shifted momentum in the hosts’ favor.
Bangladesh’s chase began on a difficult note as they lost two early wickets.
Tanzid Hasan and Towhid Hridoy responded brilliantly. The pair added 116 runs for the third wicket and gradually wrestled control away from Zimbabwe.
Tanzid played a fluent innings of 57 before departing shortly after reaching his half-century.
Hridoy continued the recovery and brought up a well-earned fifty of his own. Alongside Nurul Hasan he kept the required run rate under control and appeared to be steering Bangladesh toward victory.
With the visitors comfortably placed, the target seemed well within reach.
The contest changed dramatically once Brian Bennett broke the crucial partnership.
That breakthrough opened the door for Zimbabwe’s bowlers.
Wesley Madhevere then removed the dangerous Hridoy, triggering a collapse that stunned the Bangladesh camp.
The visitors slipped from a commanding position as wickets fell in quick succession. Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani struck at key moments, while Sikandar Raza also contributed with an important wicket.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure and never allowed Bangladesh to regain control.
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz refused to surrender despite the collapse around him.
He guided the lower order with determination and gradually reduced the target, keeping Bangladesh’s hopes alive deep into the final overs.
However Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam all departed cheaply, leaving Mehidy with little support.
He battled until the final stages but eventually became the last batter dismissed as Bangladesh were bowled out just short of the target.
The victory highlighted Zimbabwe’s growing confidence as a one-day side.
Speaking after the match, Sikandar Raza praised the team’s belief and resilience. He said recent victories have changed the mindset within the squad, allowing the players to trust they can win from difficult situations. He also credited Ben Curran for his outstanding century and applauded Brad Evans for providing the finishing touch with the bat.
Raza added that Harare’s winter conditions demand patience from batters, especially during the opening overs, before the surface becomes easier for scoring later in the innings. He also thanked the home supporters for their constant backing throughout the match.
This victory secured back-to-back ODI series wins over Bangladesh on home soil and further demonstrated Zimbabwe’s progress as a competitive one-day team.
The hosts combined a brilliant century from Ben Curran with disciplined bowling and outstanding determination in the field.
For Bangladesh the defeat in 2nd ODI from Zimbabwe will be particularly painful. They had built a strong platform during the chase but allowed the match to slip away through a costly middle-order collapse.
Zimbabwe meanwhile, celebrated another famous comeback proving once again that they are becoming a team capable of thriving under pressure when the game hangs in the balance.
