New Zealand secured a spot in the semifinals

New Zealand secured a spot in the semifinals of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 with a 5 wicket victory over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on Monday. Rachin Ravindra’s century and Michael Bracewell’s 4 wicket haul played key roles in the win. The Black Caps successfully chased Bangladesh’s 237 run target in 46.1 overs. They joined India in the knockout stage.

Ravindra returning from injury starred with the bat. He scored 112 off 105 balls hitting 12 fours and one six. His composed innings guided New Zealand’s chase before he was dismissed.

Earlier, Bracewell’s impressive spell helped New Zealand restrict Bangladesh to 236 runs. He claimed four wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs. O’Rourke also contributed with two wickets.

Bangladesh batting first, had a solid start. Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto put up a 45 run opening stand. Hasan scored 24 before falling to Bracewell. The middle order struggled. Mehdi Hasan Miraz (13), Mushfiqur Rahim (2) and Mahmudullah (4) failed to make an impact.

Shanto anchored the innings scoring 77 runs with seven fours. He built a 45 run partnership with Jaker Ali (45) for the sixth wicket. After Shanto’s dismissal in the 37th over, Ali added 35 runs with Rishad Hossein (26).
New Zealand’s chase started poorly. Taskin Ahmed dismissed Will Young for a duck in the first over. Kane Williamson (5) also fell early to Nahid Rana. Devon Conway (30) showed promise but was bowled out in the 15th over leaving New Zealand at 72/3.

For Bangladesh Rishad Hossain, Nahid Rana, Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed each took a wicket.

Ravindra steadied the innings with Tom Latham. They built a 129 run stand for the fourth wicket. Latham scored 55 off 76 balls before Bangladesh fielders ran him out in the 41st over. Glenn Phillips (21*) and Michael Bracewell (11*) completed the chase. New Zealand secured a spot in the semifinals and reach the target with 23 balls to spare.
