Batting first, New Zealand started cautiously through Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. Both openers later increased the scoring rate but failed to convert their starts into substantial innings.

Glenn Phillips took responsibility in the middle order and maintained the momentum with regular boundaries. He also rotated the strike effectively, using the gaps in the field to collect valuable runs.

Bevon Jacobs provided further support with a useful late contribution. As a result, New Zealand finished on 225, their highest T20I total against India on home soil.
