Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has officially taken over as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The announcement was made on April 3 marking a new chapter for Asian cricket.

According to the ACC Naqvi’s appointment aligns with the rotation policy agreed upon by member boards. He succeeds Shammi Silva the Sri Lanka Cricket chief who had been serving as interim president after India’s Jay Shah became ICC President in December.

The ACC confirmed the leadership change in a press release highlighting Mohsin Naqvi vision to grow the sport across Asia. “It’s a great honour to become ACC President,” Naqvi said. “Asia is the heart of global cricket. I look forward to working with all member boards to expand the game and make it stronger than ever.”

He added that collaboration and innovation will be key to achieving success. “Together we will open new doors support young talent and take Asian cricket to the next level,” he said. Naqvi also thanked the outgoing president for his service and leadership.

Outgoing president Shammi Silva reflected on his time in office. He called it a privilege to lead the ACC and thanked the member boards for their unity. Silva also praised Jay Shah, under whose leadership, he said, the ACC achieved key milestones. “I’m confident that Naqvi will take ACC even further,” Silva said.

The ACC described Naqvi as a forward-thinking leader with a focus on unity, growth and youth development. Under his leadership the council aims to increase cricket’s reach and popularity across Asia.

In a separate statement the PCB confirmed that Pakistan has now taken charge of the council. The board said it is ready to guide the ACC in promoting cricket throughout the continent. “With Pakistan leading ACC will grow stronger and more united,” the PCB stated.

This leadership transition signals a fresh start for the ACC. With Mohsin Naqvi at the helm Asian cricket (ACC) looks set for an exciting and progressive future.
