Hobart Hurricanes become the first team to reach in the finals of bbl 2025, beating Sydney Sixers. This thrilling match held on 21st January 2025 at Ninja Stadium in Australia.

Hobart Hurricanes maintain their position on top of the points table through out the season. In form team of the tournament, with more competitions to their name has achieved another milestone by defeating Sydney Sixers in their first Qualifier match. While winning the toss Sydney Sixers chose to bowl first.

In first innings of play Hobart Hurricanes set a handsome total of 173 with loss of 7 wickets in their limited 20 overs. Openers start the game with a good partnership of 47 runs in just 4.1 overs where Mitchell Owen got out by Jafer Choha. Mitchell Owen made 36 runs in just 15 balls with 3 fours and 3 Sixes in his short but meaningful innings. No one can reached to fifty or century. Ben MecDermott made 42 in 31 balls with 4 fours and 1 six that was the highest runs of 1st innings.

While chasing 173 runs Sixers lose their first wicket on 4th ball of very first over of Riely Meredith. Cameron Gannon take Second wicket of Sydney Sixers in quick succession on 2nd ball of very next over. Captain of Sixers Moises Henriques also got out on the 2nd ball of 3rd over which was bowled by Reily Meredith and they were 3 down on just 5 runs.

Sixers could not heal the damage done by Hobart Hurricanes bowlers in the power play. Kurtis Patterson show some resistance and made 48 runs with help of 3 fours and 2 sixes playing 33 balls. Sixers middle order played good knocks Jordan Silk 57 runs and Lachlan Shaw not out for 33. After a thrilling competition Sixers fall just 12 runs short of their target.

Riley Meredith receives man of the match award on his superb bowling performance taking 2 early wickets while giving 34 runs in his 4 overs spell.

Sixers still have a chance to make their place in finals after wining the third play-off on 24 January.
