England capped off a sensational T20I series with another dominant victory over India, completing a historic clean sweep on home soil. The hosts outclassed the visitors in every department and became the first team to whitewash India in a T20I series consisting of three or more matches.
The victory also saw England replace India as the world’s No. 1-ranked T20I side, ending India’s long stay at the top of the rankings.
England laid the foundation for victory with a stunning batting display in 5th T20 after being asked to bat from India.
Jos Buttler returned to form with a magnificent century, scoring 131 in a commanding innings filled with powerful stroke play and smart placement.
Harry Brook provided the perfect support. The England captain remained unbeaten on 95 from only 45 deliveries and attacked the Indian bowlers throughout the innings.
Together, the pair stitched a record 233-run partnership for the second wicket, the highest stand by any England pair against India in T20 International cricket.
Their partnership powered England to their highest-ever first-innings total against India.
India’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring. Arshdeep Singh was the only bowler to maintain control, while the rest of the attack found it difficult to slow England’s charge.
Fielding mistakes added to India’s problems, with several dropped catches allowing England’s batters to make the most of their opportunities.
Chasing a daunting target, India showed positive intent from the opening overs.
Although Abhishek Sharma departed early, Sanju Samson played an aggressive cameo that helped the visitors reach a strong Powerplay score.
After Samson’s dismissal, captain Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan rebuilt the innings with a valuable partnership.
The pair briefly kept India’s hopes alive before Liam Dawson dismissed Iyer at a crucial stage, shifting the momentum firmly back toward the hosts.
Kishan continued to fight and scored a well-made 56 from 35 deliveries. Tilak Varma also impressed after moving up the batting order and registered a determined half-century.
Despite those individual efforts, the required run rate kept climbing and India failed to build another significant partnership.
The visitors eventually fell well short of the target.
England’s bowlers backed up the batting effort with another disciplined performance.
Jofra Archer once again struck early, removing an opener and continuing his outstanding series with the new ball.
Sam Curran then made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with the first delivery of his spell. He finished with impressive figures of 3 for 36 and played a key role in breaking India’s middle order.
Liam Dawson removed Shreyas Iyer at an important moment while Josh Tongue chipped in despite proving slightly expensive.
Veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid celebrated his 150th T20 International appearance with two wickets as England tightened their grip on the match.
Although the hosts dropped a couple of catches, those missed opportunities had little impact on the final result.
The comprehensive victory in 5th T20 against India completed one of England’s finest T20I series performances.
The hosts dominated with both bat and ball, winning every match through aggressive cricket and disciplined execution.
The series also marked England’s first multi-match T20I series victory over India and their first-ever clean sweep against the world champions in the format.
For India the tour ended on a disappointing note. Despite a handful of encouraging individual performances, the team struggled collectively with batting consistency, bowling execution and fielding standards throughout the series.
England meanwhile leave the series full of confidence after a historic triumph that not only secured a memorable whitewash but also lifted them to the top of the ICC T20I rankings.
