Australia secured a stunning 5 wicket victory over England in Lahore during the first round of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 (AUS vs ENG). Josh Inglis led the charge with his maiden ODI century guiding Australia to the highest successful chase in ICC Champions Trophy history.
England posted a massive total of 351/8, the highest ever in Champions Trophy history. Ben Duckett played a crucial role scoring a record breaking 165 runs. This is the first 150 plus individual score in the Champions Trophy history. Joe Root also contributed with a composed 68 stitching a 158 run partnership for the second wicket. Adam Zampa dismissed Root before removing Harry Brook helping Australia regain momentum. Glenn Maxwell then sent England captain Jos Buttler back while Jofra Archer’s quick 21 off 10 deliveries provided a late boost.
Chasing 352 Australia faced early trouble as Travis Head and Steve Smith fell inside the power play. However, Matthew Short and Marnus Labuschagne added 95 runs for the third wicket before England hit back in AUS vs ENG clash. Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone dismissed both leaving Australia at 136/4.
Josh Inglis and Alex Carey then built a crucial 146 run stand. Carey scored 69 before Brydon Carse broke the partnership. Inglis however remained steady finishing with 120 off 86 balls. He smashed 11 fours and one six sealing the win with a maximum. Glenn Maxwell also played a vital role scoring a quick 31 off 14 balls.
