Shubman Gill and Maheesh Theekshana Become No.1 in ODI Rankings Ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Gill becomes the first with 796 ratings Babar had 773 and is at the 2nd place in ODI ranking table.
India’s Shubman Gill has taken the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings replacing Pakistan’s Babar Azam. In the bowling rankings Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana has overtaken Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan to become the No.1 bowler in the format. These changes come just before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 adding extra excitement to the tournament in Pakistan and Dubai.
This is the second time Gill has held the No.1 position. He first achieved this milestone during the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. His recent century against England in Ahmedabad helped him regain the top spot. Babar Azam now sits in second place 23 rating points behind Gill. India captain Rohit Sharma remains in third place trailing Gill by 45 points.
In the bowling rankings Theekshana has reached the top for the first time. Rashid Khan now in second place is just 11 points behind him. India’s Kuldeep Yadav has moved up to fourth place while South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj has re-entered the rankings in sixth. New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has climbed four spots to seventh.
Meanwhile Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi continues to lead the ODI all-rounder rankings. Santner has moved up one place to enter the top six.
With these changes, the Champions Trophy promises exciting battles between the world’s best players. How long can Gill remain at the first spot in ODI ranking? Would he keep this place through the year?
