India started their Champions Trophy 2025 journey with a convincing six wicket win against Bangladesh (Ind vs ban) in Dubai.  Mohammed Shami’s 5 wicket haul and Shubman Gill’s unbeaten century(101*) were the highlights of India’s successful chase.

Bangladesh chose to bat first but struggled early on. Shami struck quickly dismissing Soumya Sarkar. Harshit Rana making his Champions Trophy debut, he removed Najmul Hossain Shanto leaving Bangladesh in trouble. The situation worsened as Shami and Axar Patel took further wickets reducing Bangladesh to 35/5.

Axar nearly achieved a hat-trick but a dropped catch by Rohit Sharma prevented it. However, Towhid Hridoy (100 off 118 balls) and Jaker Ali (68 off 114 balls) staged a recovery. Their strong 154 run partnership helped Bangladesh reach a total of 228 before they were all out in the final over. Shami’s bowling performance was exceptional taking 5/53 and becoming the fastest Indian to reach 200 ODI wickets.

India’s chase began well with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forming a solid opening partnership of 69 runs. Rohit scored 41 runs off 36 balls exceeding 11000 ODI runs before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed.

India then encountered some difficulties as Virat Kohli (22) and Shreyas Iyer (15) fell. However, Gill remained steady and played a crucial role. He reached his century in 125 balls his eighth in ODIs. KL Rahul also contributed an unbeaten 41 runs securing the win with a six wickets in the 47th over.

This victory in (Ind vs ban) is a positive start for India in the tournament.  Their next match is against Pakistan in Dubai.  Bangladesh will aim to bounce back in their upcoming game against New Zealand in Rawalpindi.
