Gujarat Titans (GT) handed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) their fourth consecutive defeat in IPL 2025 with a convincing 7 wicket win in Hyderabad. Chasing 153 GT reached the target with ease in 16.4 overs thanks to solid knocks from Captain Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar.
SRH struggled with the bat on a slow black soil pitch. They lost Travis Head early to Mohammed Siraj who bowled a brilliant spell and finished with career best IPL figures of 4 for 17. Abhishek Sharma also fell to Siraj during the powerplay putting SRH on the back foot.
After that the runs dried up. SRH only managed two sixes in the entire innings. Nitish Kumar Reddy top scored with 31 off 34 balls. Heinrich Klaasen added 27 but wickets kept falling. Sai Kishore bowled smartly and dismissed both Klaasen and Reddy ending with 2 for 24.
Pat Cummins tried to lift the scoring with a late cameo of 22* off just 9 balls. He and Ishant Sharma helped SRH push past 150 with a 17 run final over. SRH ended on 152/8 against GT in match #19 of IPL 2025.
In reply Gujarat Titans lost Jos Buttler early to Cummins for a duck and Sai Sudharsan to Shami. But GT promoted Washington Sundar to No. 4 and the move paid off. He smashed 49 off 20 balls including two sixes and four boundaries in one over from Simarjeet Singh. His aggressive start gave GT momentum.
Gill anchored the chase with a calm 61* off 43 balls. Together he and Washington added 90 runs for the third wicket. After Washington fell just one short of a fifty Sherfane Rutherford came in and finished things off quickly with 35* from just 16 balls.
Cummins tried to break the partnership by bringing himself back on but Gill hit a classy cover drive and Rutherford smashed four boundaries in one over. SRH’s bowlers couldn’t stop the flow of runs.
Despite a strong bowling start from Shami and Cummins, SRH’s batters once again failed to deliver. Rashid Khan went wicket less for the third game in a row, finishing with 0 for 31. In contrast Sai Kishore was effective and accurate helping GT apply pressure during the middle overs.
GT with this win over SRH climbed to 2nd place in the points table with their third straight victory in IPL 2025 . SRH meanwhile continued to struggle especially with their batting lineup on tricky pitches.
