Sri Lanka series win cements their dominance at home extending their unbeaten streak in the ODI series on their turf to 11 consecutive series.
Sri Lanka wins the toss and decided to bat first. They put a decent total of 281 on board in their limited 50 overs. Sri Lanka’s batting unit did well earlier in the game. Kusal Mendis made a brilliant century. Nishan Madushka(51) and Captain Charith Asalanka(78*) runs contribute well in the total. Janith Liyanage chipped in with a useful 32 runs cameo.
After Sri Lanka posted an impressive total of 281, Australia’s chase did not seem good from the beginning. Matt Short trapped again earlier in the 3rd over by the same bowler Asitha Fernando. Australia’s middle order and tail end struggled to cope with Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling attack.
Only three batters from Australian batting line reached to the double figures Smith (29), Head (18) and Inglis (22). Australia’s batting collapse badly from 78 for 3 to 107 all out. The host’s bowling unit was exceptional with Fernando and Hasaranga claiming 3 wickets each.
Dunith Wellalage was star of the show as he claimed four wickets in his 7.2 overs only giving 35 runs. Sri Lankan Captain Charith Asalanka named Player of the series on his brilliant performance in both games.
After Sri Lanka completes 2-0 series sweep against Australia. The Aussies will take valuable lessons from their encounter against Sri Lanka. Australia will face their rivalry England on February 22 in Lahore in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
