Zimbabwe produced an impressive all-round performance to defeat Bangladesh by a convincing margin in the 1st ODI of tri-series. The Chevrons showed resilience with the bat before their bowlers dismantled the opposition. Moreover, the victory marked Zimbabwe’s first ODI success under captain Sikandar Raza.
Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed struck early and put Zimbabwe under pressure at 24/3. However, experienced batters Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine steadied the innings.
Both players handled the new-ball threat with patience. They gradually found their timing and reached half-centuries. Their partnership added 150 runs and lifted Zimbabwe to 174/3 in the 1st ODI of tri-series against Bangladesh.
Nevertheless, Saif Hassan broke the stand by dismissing Taylor. Zimbabwe then lost their grip on the innings. Raza and Madhevere departed in quick succession, leaving the side struggling at 234/8.
Despite the collapse, Zimbabwe’s lower order made valuable contributions. Newman Nyamhuri and Masakadza helped the team cross the 270-run mark and set a challenging target.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers worked together to keep Bangladesh under pressure. Blessing Muzarabani troubled the batters with extra bounce, while Nyamhuri found movement off the pitch.
Wellington Masakadza and Sikandar Raza added further breakthroughs through spin. Each bowler contributed at least one wicket, highlighting the team’s collective effort.
However, Brad Evans delivered the standout performance. After an expensive opening spell, he returned strongly and finished with four wickets for 45 runs in 6.4 overs.
Evans also dismissed Tanzid Hasan, who had caused Zimbabwe problems in previous white-ball meetings. After the match, Evans said it felt good to return to the team and contribute with wickets. He praised the squad’s unity and stressed the importance of supporting one another.
Bangladesh began their chase positively despite losing Soumya Sarkar early. Tanzid Hasan attacked confidently and helped the visitors maintain a healthy scoring rate.
However, Zimbabwe struck at crucial moments. Evans removed Tanzid and then dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto. Bangladesh soon slipped to 66/3 after their promising start.
Towhid Hridoy and Saif Hassan attempted to rebuild the innings. Yet Raza broke their partnership and pushed Bangladesh further onto the back foot at 97/4.
The wickets continued to fall as Zimbabwe tightened their grip. Bangladesh struggled to establish another meaningful stand, leaving their chase in serious trouble.
Rishad Hossain offered some resistance with the bat. Nevertheless, his late effort could not change the outcome.
Zimbabwe controlled the 1st ODI of tri-series through disciplined batting, timely wickets and sharp fielding against Bangladesh. Although they suffered a middle-order collapse, their lower order ensured they posted a competitive total.
Their bowlers then maintained the pressure and prevented Bangladesh from recovering. As a result, the Chevrons completed a convincing win and gave Raza his first ODI victory as captain.
The result brought plenty of joy to Zimbabwe’s dressing room. Meanwhile, Bangladesh were left to review their batting collapse and find answers before their next match.
