Pakistan Seal T20I Series Against Sri Lanka After Dominant 82-Run Victory in 2nd T20.
Pakistan produced an impressive all-round display to defeat Sri Lanka by 82 runs and clinch the three-match T20I series 2-0, with one game still to play. The hosts excelled with both bat and ball. Moreover, the victory gave Pakistan’s relatively inexperienced squad a valuable confidence boost.
Pakistan’s batting unit delivered a commanding performance. Maaz Sadaqat emerged as one of the standout performers, smashing 96 runs to help his side post a formidable total of 215.
His brilliant innings proved crucial. It transformed a competitive score of around 190 into a much stronger total that put Sri Lanka under considerable pressure.
Meanwhile, captain Sahibzada Farhan continued his excellent form at the top of the order. He registered another half-century and provided Pakistan with a solid platform. Following Fakhar Zaman’s dismissal, Farhan and Sadaqat took control of the innings.
As a result, Sri Lanka struggled to contain Pakistan’s aggressive batting approach. The visitors conceded too many runs and faced a difficult chase.
Pakistan’s bowlers continued the momentum after the break. Salman Mirza struck early to give the hosts an important breakthrough.
However, Mohammad Imran delivered the decisive spell. He claimed three wickets and dealt a major blow to Sri Lanka’s hopes of mounting a successful chase.
Subsequently, Pakistan maintained control and restricted the visitors’ scoring opportunities. Sri Lanka’s batting problems resurfaced as the team failed to build meaningful partnerships.
Maheesh Theekshana top-scored with an unbeaten 32. Nevertheless, his effort was not enough to rescue the innings. Sineth Jayawardena, Kamindu Mendis and Chamindu Wickramasinghe made starts but failed to convert them into substantial contributions.
Earlier, Sri Lanka had opted to bowl first against Pakistan in the 2nd T20. The visitors made a reasonable start and removed Fakhar Zaman. However, they could not sustain the pressure as Farhan and Sadaqat accelerated the scoring.
Sri Lanka entered the contest after Lahiru Udara’s outstanding knock had helped them post a competitive total in the previous match. This time, however, Udara departed early, leaving the visitors searching for answers.
Their middle order also failed to provide the required stability. Although several batters reached the crease and showed brief promise, none could produce the innings needed to challenge Pakistan.
Consequently, Sri Lanka fell well short of the target in the 2nd T20 against Pakistan. Their latest defeat highlighted the need for greater consistency and stronger partnerships in the batting department.
The victory marks another positive step for Pakistan’s developing T20I side. After securing the silver medal at the Asian Games, the team has continued to build momentum with another encouraging performance.
Sadaqat’s explosive batting and Farhan’s leadership have emerged as major positives. Furthermore, the bowling attack showed its ability to strike at crucial moments and defend a large total.
Farhan can take particular encouragement from his start as Pakistan’s T20I captain. His team has responded with consecutive victories and secured the series before the final match.
Pakistan have now taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. With confidence growing across the squad, the hosts will look to maintain their winning rhythm in the remaining fixture. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka must address their batting shortcomings before they can challenge Pakistan in the final encounter.
