Australia have won the 1st T20 from Bangladesh by 4 wickets and 10 balls remaining in their innings.
Australia made a strong start to the T20I series by defeating Bangladesh and securing a 1-0 lead. The visitors delivered an impressive all-round performance, using disciplined bowling and a composed chase to bounce back after their ODI series disappointment.
While Bangladesh fought hard until the final stages their low total ultimately left them with too much ground to make up.
After being asked to bat Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships and never gained control of the innings.
Saif Hassan provided some early momentum while Mahedi Hasan added valuable runs late in the innings with a fighting knock of 29 from 22 deliveries. However the rest of the batting lineup failed to make a significant impact.
No other batter managed to cross the 20-run mark, highlighting the challenges Bangladesh faced throughout the innings.
Australia’s spin attack proved too strong. Adam Zampa and debutant Joel Davies led the charge sharing six wickets between them. Matthew Renshaw also made important contributions with two wickets.
Meanwhile Spencer Johnson and Nikhil Chaudhary chipped in with one wicket each as Australia dismissed Bangladesh for a modest total. The visitors executed their plans perfectly with spin accounting for the majority of the wickets.
Australia’s chase began with a minor setback as both openers fell during the Powerplay. However Cooper Connolly once again showed why he has become one of Australia’s most reliable performers on this tour.
The left-hander played with confidence and attacked from the outset. His quick-fire 47 from 27 balls shifted the momentum firmly in Australia’s favor.
Connolly also shared an important partnership with Tim David adding 40 runs and easing any pressure on the chasing side.
As a result Bangladesh’s hopes of defending their total began to fade. Once Connolly laid the foundation, Australia’s middle order took control.
Debutant Nikhil Chaudhary and Matthew Renshaw helped move the innings closer to the target with sensible contributions. Although neither batter remained until the finish they ensured there were no further complications.
Eventually Xavier Bartlett applied the finishing touch in 1st T20 against Bangladesh and guided Australia home with 10 balls remaining.
The comfortable chase underlined Australia’s dominance throughout the match. Although the result did not go their way, Bangladesh can take encouragement from their bowling effort.
Every bowler used except Saif Hassan, managed to claim a wicket. Debutant Abdul Saqlain impressed on his first appearance and picked up two wickets.
Taskin Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman also contributed with breakthroughs as Bangladesh continued to fight despite defending a small target.
Their determination in the field prevented Australia from cruising to victory and showed the team’s commitment until the very end. The biggest concern for Bangladesh remains their batting performance.
Their bowlers created pressure and competed well but the lack of runs made the task extremely difficult from the beginning. Against a quality Australian side a stronger batting display will be essential if they hope to level the series.
Australia meanwhile, will take plenty of confidence from victory in the 1st T20 against Bangladesh. The visitors now hold the advantage and will look to build on their momentum in the upcoming matches.
For Bangladesh the challenge is clear. Their bowlers have shown promise, but their batters must deliver if they are to turn the series around.
